Prevention Starts with All

This spring, join FAN at Ann Arbor’s historic Michigan Theater to hear the unforgettable story of a former NBA athlete’s journey to sobriety. In this very personal presentation, Chris Herren will share his recovery story in a brutally honest format, with just a microphone.
The event will start with a 5-minute film introducing Chris and showing highlights of his basketball career and his dream to play in the NBA, which began to unravel by making a few bad decisions. From growing up in Massachusetts to playing Division 1 basketball and in the NBA, he will take you on his journey from addiction to sobriety. Additionally, he will address the issues of gateway drugs, prescription drug use, vaping and the responsibility of prevention starting with us all. The event will conclude with a Q&A session. Make plans now to attend this inspiring presentation, as Chris shares his journey navigating the disease of addiction, the road to recovery and his mission to reach just one person and make a difference. Suicide Prevention Opportunities

On November 8th, the Western Wayne Suicide Prevention Coalition is hosting two important events. At the Inn at St. John’s we will be hosting QPR Training. This all-day Suicide Prevention event is intended for all school staff as well as interested community members. We will also be hosting a Mental Health Conference at Schoolcraft College designed with school mental health care teams in mind. It would also be appropriate for community mental health providers and advocates. We encourage you to register for these important events and we hope you will be part of the change we want to see here in Wayne County.

Family Matters Parent Events

Please join Growth Works and the Western Wayne Suicide Prevention Coalition in welcoming Matt Emerzian from Every Monday Matters. We will be hosting a Parent Series taking place on November 9th and 10th. We hope you will join us for some powerful discussions regarding the growth and wellbeing of our youth, and how our relationships help them to thrive-emotionally, socially and academically.
