Peer Recovery Coaching
Growth Works’ Peer Recovery Coaches assist clients in identifying and connecting with resources for treatment, recovery work, health care, life skills training, employment, and more. Peer Recovery Coaches are living examples of recovery and use their unique experience to assist others on their journey to recovery. The Growth Works’ Peer Recovery Coaching model helps introduce clients to the following:
- Recovery concepts
- Opening up and sharing personal experiences and strengths
- Education for both individuals and community groups on overdose prevention and Narcan administration
- Recovery resources for individuals, families, community agencies, and organizations
Who are Peer Recovery Coaches and what do they do?
Certified Peer Recovery Coaches are trained and certified State of Michigan Certified coaches, who have personal experience with addiction to drugs and alcohol, as well as successful recovery from addiction and alcoholism. Their goal is to help empower others to make healthier choices. Growth Works’ Peer Recovery Coaches assist clients in identifying and connecting with resources for treatment, recovery work, health care, life skills training, employment, and more.
Where does coaching take place?
One of the unique strengths of Peer Recovery Coaching is the flexibility that our coaches have to meet with clients throughout the community. Peer Recovery Coaches may work with clients in individual or peer group settings, helping clients identify needs and resources to improve client likelihood of initiating and sustaining recovery from addiction and alcoholism.
When is coaching available?
Growth Works collaborates with Trinity Health Livonia and local public safety departments in Western Wayne County to provide peer recovery coaching services to individuals experiencing overdose and using the hospital emergency department. Using the peer-to-peer support model, coaches work to help these individuals in crisis access treatment, improve social connectedness and self-sufficiency, and live healthier lives.
Why is Peer Recovery Coaching important?
Peer Recovery Coaching is designed to bridge gaps in client care throughout their journey towards wellness, providing individualized care and attention from a uniquely relatable perspective. Peer Recovery Coaches are able to complement therapeutic treatment work to better individualize care, support clients’ specific needs, and increase a sense of hope.

Chemical Dependency and Substance Abuse Treatment
Substance use treatment includes a variety of resources and professionals to meet the needs of individuals struggling with use of mood altering substances. Growth Works has a long history of working with adults who are struggling with substance abuse and we continue to expand our services to meet the growing demand for services.
The mission of the Growth Works Substance Use Disorder Treatment Program is to ensure all clients receive appropriate, coordinated care. Our program addresses Substance Use Disorders (SUDs) and any Co-Occurring Disorders (CODs), whether they relate to mental health diagnoses, trauma, and/or criminal behavior.
Who is Substance Use Treatment for?
Growth Works’ Substance Use Treatment program consists of a continuum of care that spans the needs of those questioning if they have an issue with drugs and/or alcohol; those who feel their use is out of control; and to those who are practicing recovery, but may still benefit from professional support.
Where does Substance Use Treatment take place?
We provide several outpatient groups in the community for those dealing with substance abuse issues. Admission to these groups requires first taking an assessment, where Growth Works collects information to better understand the individual’s strengths and needs. If the adult individual meets the criteria for the program, they may qualify for one of the following groups:
Outpatient Drug Treatment is to support clients in developing a sober, recovery-based lifestyle. Clinicians assist individuals to:
- Identify and manage triggers
- Express feelings in a safe environment
- Build supportive relationships
- Understand family roles and patterns
- Develop healthy communication skills
*Both adolescent and adult groups meet two times per week.
Relapse Prevention is an essential follow-up to Outpatient Treatment. This phase of treatment provides ongoing support and therapy for individuals who have demonstrated a period of sobriety, but are still at risk of relapse and need continuing services to solidify their recovery.
*This group meets once per week.
When is Substance Use Treatment available?
A Growth Works client will find themselves in a Substance Abuse Treatment program through one of two ways: Mandated through a court system or by voluntary participation.
Why is Substance Use Treatment necessary?
Substance use treatment provides individuals with the education and knowledge to understand the disease concepts of addiction and provides a safe space to build a community as they pursue a journey to recovery.
